We are often asked, “What is a bistro?” The Webster’s College Dictionary (1999) defines bistro (bis´tro, or be´stro) as: (1) a small, modest, European-style restaurant or café, or (2) a small nightclub or bar. We selected definition #1 to be the most appropriate for this beautiful venue.

The Bistro at the Görtz Haus Gallery in Grimes is not what you may think it is. To be perfectly clear, “this ain’t your grandmother’s tea room.” The food may be tasty and elegantly presented, but the portions are apparently larger than those of a tearoom, as we observe many of our guests taking advantage of our “doggy box” service. The Bistro also touts an Espresso Bar, as well, something not found in many tearooms.

The Bistro’s kitchen may be small, but the imagination of the staff is endless. The Bistro at the Görtz Haus sets itself apart by baking fresh bread every day, and by making all of its own soups and desserts. All entrées, gourmet sandwiches, soups, salads, and quiche, as well as our desserts were designed especially for The Bistro. The Bistro Menu will always have your old favorites, but new items are added frequently. Also, the chef features new entrées, sandwiches and/or soups daily, so come and see us often!

The Görtz Haus Gallery has also been the venue for many banquets and special events. Please contact our chef for details, and ask for the latest Banquet Menu and Hors d'oeuvres Menu so you can start planning your special event.

To accommodate your business lunch needs, we will bring The Bistro to your office by way of our Bistro-In-A-Box. Please give us a call … it’s like none other!
